The Windows XP installation procedure consists of 4 steps. These steps MUST be followed in sequence for a successful installation. The steps are: - 1) Preparing your system. 2) Installing the Windows XP Modem Software 3) Configuring the Windows XP Networking 4) Connecting to the Internet Please follow the instructions carefully. NOTE: These instructions assume you are using the Classic Start Menu presentation style. To set the Start Menu Style, right mouse click on the Start button and click Properties. The Task and Start Menu Properties window appears. Select Classic Start Menu. Click Apply and then click OK.
STEP 1 - Preparing for Installation Before proceeding with the installation of your IDSL Modem please ensure that the IDSL Modem is configured and attached to your telephone network and your computer. For instructions on how to configure and attach your IDSL Modem, click here. Log onto your workstation with administrator privileges. You are now ready to commence the Windows 2000 modem installation. STEP 2 - Windows XP Modem Installation 1. Click on the Start button. Then click on select Settings->Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears. Open (double click) the Phone and Modem Options icon. The Phone and Modem Options window appears. If you have "Category View" selected in the Control Panel, you will instead need to click Printers and Other Hardware, then Phone and Modem Options. NOTE: If you have never installed a modem before, an interim Local Information window will appear, requesting you specify the dialing rules (country, area code, and outside line access code). Enter the details as requested and click OK. The Phone and Modem Options window then appears. 2. The Phone and Modem Options window has three tabs. Select the Modems tab and then click the Add button. The Add/Remove New Hardware Wizard window appears, which will guide you through the installation of a new modem. 3. The first page of the Hardware Wizard asks you if you want Windows to detect your modem. Select 'Don’t detect my modem, I will select it from a list' and then click Next. The next page of the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard appears. 4. The Install New Modem window then requests that you to provide information concerning the manufacturer and the model of the new modem. This information for the IDSL Modem is provided on the floppy disk (in the file idsl.inf). Insert the disk in the floppy drive. When you have inserted the floppy disk, click the Have Disk button. This brings up the Install From Disk window. 5. In most cases your floppy disk drive will be A:. Simply click OK. NOTE: If for some reason your floppy disk drive is not assigned as A:, replace the A: with the drive label assigned by your computer. You should be able to get this information from Windows Explorer. 6. IDSL MODEM at 115200 should be displayed under Models. Click Next. 7. You now need to let windows know how your IDSL Modem is connected to your computer. The IDSL Modem will normally be connected to serial communications port 1 (referred to as COM1) or serial communication port 2 (COM2). You may need to refer to your computer manual to correctly identify which communication port your IDSL Modem is connected to. From the Select the port to use with this modem list,
select the appropriate port, to which the modem is connected (usually COM1)
and click Next
A Digital Signature Not Found screen might open. Click Continue Anyway to proceed.
8. A window will open, stating that Your modem has been set up successfully. Click the Finish button.
9. A Phone and Modem Options window will open, in which the IDSL MODEM at 115200 is listed. Click the OK button.
This completes the Windows XP Modem Installation. It is now necessary
to go to STEP 3 and configure the Windows XP Networking.
